Dundee, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - Dundee United striker Francisco Sandaza will miss the first few weeks of the new season after being diagnosed with a double hernia. The 24-year-old will have to undergo surgery in his native Spain which is expected to keep him sidelined until September. "Fran's absence will means that Danny Cadamarteri will play as a striker instead of on the wing," said United manager Craig Levein. "Unfortunately, Fran needs an operation that will keep him out for a while so he won't do any of preseason. It's a huge blow for us and for the player, but these things happen I suppose. "We'd hoped that a summer of rest would cure the problem but, as soon as he started running, he felt it flare up. Fran was looking forward to doing pre- season after missing it last year. "He suffered for that so we'll handle things differently this time around. He'll be back around September, along with the likes of Jon Daly, Kevin Smith and Keith Watson, so they'll do a pre-season together then." Meanwhile, United have completed the signing of 24-year-old Slovakian goalkeeper Dusan Pernis on a pre-contract. (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
