Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - Robbie Rogers scored one goal and set up two more as the United States opened its Gold Cup campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win over Grenada at Qwest Field.
Freddie Adu opened the scoring in the eighth minute, while Stuart Holden added a second goal before the break. Rogers scored in the 60th minute to make it 3-0, and Charlie Davies capped the scoring eight minutes later.
The second game in group play for the United States will come on Wednesday against Honduras, which beat Haiti 1-0 on Saturday in its opening match.
Rogers was dangerous throughout the opening half as he delivered a number of good crosses from the left wing.
Rogers set up the first goal in the eighth minute when he carried the ball into the box and squared it to Adu, who struck a low shot first-time past goalkeeper Desmond Noel.
Davies almost doubled the lead in the 22nd minute when he poked a shot towards the far corner that Noel got down to stop, while Grenada's best scoring opportunity arrived one minute later when Kithson Bain's header forced a diving save from goalkeeper Troy Perkins.
Rogers then picked out an unmarked Holden in front of goal and he headed it home from close range in the 32nd minute to make it 2-0, while Adu turned a header on goal following another Rogers cross that forced Noel to tip the ball over the crossbar.
The second half started slowly but a nice run from Rogers through the midfield opened things up. He darted past a Grenada defender and stayed onside before taking a nice pass from Logan Pause and slotting his shot past Noel.
A long ball from the back by Chad Marshall led to the fourth goal for the U.S. as Heath Pearce got to it on the left wing and touched it into the path of Davies, who calmly rolled it into the bottom right corner.
Adu was denied by the post in the 71st minute, while Davy Arnaud made Noel produce a good save minutes later as the U.S. was in complete control throughout.
