Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - University of Cincinnati head football coach Brian Kelly has agreed to a new five-year contract that will make him the Bearcats head coach through the 2013 season.

Kelly had previously inked a five-year pact with the club in December of 2007 that took him through the 2012 season. The new contract guarantees Kelly a salary of $1.475 million over the next five years along with performance-based incentives. Kelly's assistant coaches will also receive pay increases.

"In a short period of time, Brian Kelly has made a name for himself and the University of Cincinnati football team across the country," said director of athletics Mike Thomas, who made the announcement on Monday. "His impact has been immediate not only as a coach, but also as a member of our community and a great ambassador for the University."

In just his third season guiding the Bearcats, the program achieved a school record 11 wins and captured their first Big East Conference title last season. Cincinnati also garnered its first ever Bowl Championship Series appearance, a 20-7 loss to Virginia Tech in the 75th edition of the Orange Bowl. Kelly was rewarded by being named Big East Coach of the Year for a second consecutive season.

Following a successful 10-win 2007 campaign, 2008 marked the program's best two-year stretch in history. UC had never posted successive seasons with 10 or more wins.

Kelly was named Cincinnati's head coach in December of 2006 following Mark Dantonio's decision to bolt for the vacant Michigan State job. Prior to coming to UC, Kelly compiled a 157-51-2 record in 16 seasons as a head coach, including stints at Western Michigan, where he won the MAC Championship, and Division II power Grand Valley State.
