New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The defending national champion Miami- Florida Hurricanes, who did not play this week, remained the No. 1 team in the Associated Press Top-25 college
football poll for a second straight week.
Ohio State, which defeated Illinois in an overtime thriller, is still ranked second, while Washington State stayed at No. 3 and Oklahoma remained in the fourth spot. Iowa moved up one position to No. 5, and Georgia also jumped a single slot to No. 6.
The biggest fall of the week was suffered by Texas, which slipped from a tie in fourth down to No. 11 after being upset by Texas Tech, 42-38.
Miami (9-0) received all 74 first-place votes and 1,850 points from a national media panel. The Hurricanes have a huge test in their next game, at home versus No. 17 Pittsburgh. Both the Panthers and Hurricanes enter the Thursday, November 21st game unbeaten in the Big East.
Ohio State (12-0) totaled 1,766 points - five less than last week after struggling to a 23-16 overtime victory at Illinois. The Buckeyes, currently atop the BCS standings, need a victory against No. 12 Michigan on Saturday to clinch a spot in the BCS national title game in the Fiesta Bowl on January 3.
Washington State (9-1), unbeaten in the Pac-10, next takes on in-state rival Washington in the annual "Apple Cup" on November 23 for a chance to clinch the Pac-10 title and at least a spot in the Rose Bowl.
The Sooners (9-1), who garnered 1,622 points in the poll, crushed Baylor, 49-9, to remain in the fourth spot.
Iowa (11-1, 8-0 Big Ten) moved up a spot to No. 5 after ending its regular season with a 45-21 win over Minnesota.
Georgia (10-1) also jumped up a spot to No. 6 after a 24-21 SEC East title clinching win over Auburn.
USC, Notre Dame, Alabama and Kansas State round out the top 10, followed by Texas, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Penn State.
Colorado, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Florida and Colorado State make up the teams from 16-20. while LSU, TCU, Boise State, Texas Tech and UCLA are the final teams in the poll.
Boise State (10-1), Texas Tech (8-4) and UCLA (7-3) are three new teams in the rankings this week, replacing Auburn, North Carolina State and Oregon. NC State fell to Virginia, 14-9, while Oregon was blown out by Washington, 42-14.
