Lexington, KY (My Sportsbook) - Rachel Alexandra, who will make her next start in the $300,000 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park June 27, will "Race for a Cure" through the end of this year. The sweetheart of American horse racing will have her future success on the track translate to financial support to the charity. The fillys owners, Jess Jackson and his wife Barbara Banke, have pledged an initial donation of $20,000 to the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure, a breast cancer nonprofit. The contribution will come from the Jackson Family Fund at the Blue Grass Community Foundation. "Rachel Alexandra is a magnificent horse," stated Ms. Banke. "In her honor, we are making a gift to the Susan B. Komen Race for a Cure." Mr. Jackson and his wife first began a fund to share the earnings of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin with the Lexington-based Blue Grass Community Foundation. They will continue to share their success in 2009 based on future winnings of the Preakness Stakes champion. "This exceptional fund is one more example of how generous people can help direct their money to charities that make a difference," said Allison Lankford, Director of Philanthropic Services, Blue Grass Community Foundation. "What a wonderful way for Barbara and Jess and their fabulous horse Rachel Alexandra to benefit so many." Rachel Alexandra destroyed the competition in the Kentucky Oaks this year by better than 20-lengths. Currently on a six race winning streak, the three- year-old has career earnings of $1,618,354 with eight wins in 11 starts. In 2009 alone the filly has won more than $1.4 million.
