Vancouver, Canada (My Sportsbook) - Paul Tracy captured the Molson Indy Vancouver Champ Car race on the 1.781-mile Concord Pacific Place street course in Vancouver. The No.1 Lola driver crossed the finish line 5.557 seconds ahead of runner-up Michel Jourdain Jr.
The victory was Tracy's second of the season and 28th of his Champ Car career, but his first since the season opener at Long Beach.
Tracy was dominant all race long as he virtually had no challenge from the other drivers. He was able to overcome a late scare, when he needed to make a final pit stop for fuel, to defend his crown.
Tracy drove past the finish line as the fans stood on their feet and cheered him on as he did his victory spin out.
In response to the fans Tracy said,"This is why I stay in Champ Car."
The race got under way with a yellow green flag because of a crash by Gaston Mazzacane during the pace lap.
When the green flag came out on lap two the points leader, Sebastien Bourdais, wasted no time as he flew past Rodolfo Lavin for second.
Tracy and Bourdais battled it out for first as they exchanged fastest lap times. But Bourdais in the No.2 Lola was never able to get past Tracy.
Behind this battle was a interesting duel for third between Lavin and Mario Dominguez.
On lap 22 a crash between Patrick Carpentier and Alex Sperafico caused Lavin to stall out as he tried to avoid the crash. Lavin had additional problems after this including a car fire. He finished the race in 15th place.
By staying out longer before the first pits, A.J. Allmendinger and Jourdain Jr. were able to pass the second-place Bourdais. On lap 44 ,Alex Tagliani, was able to pass by Bourdais. Bourdais continued to slow down and finished the race in fifth.
Allmendinger and Jourdain Jr. battled it out for second and third behind the very dominant No.1 driver.
This was still the scene after the last normal pit stops for the leaders.
But on lap 73 Tracy learned he needed to go back in for a quick splash of fuel. Tracy increased his lead to over 28 seconds so that when he came back out of the pits after lap 75 he was still in the lead.
Jourdain Jr. was able to cut the lead to under six seconds by the end of the race, but it was too little too late.
Behind Tracy, who lead 81 of the 85 laps, was Jourdain Jr., Allmendinger, Bruno Junqueira, and Bourdais.
The next race in the Champ Car series is set for Sunday, August 8th at Road America in Elkhart Lake.
