Langer cruises to six-shot win in Austin

Austin, TX (My Sportsbook) - Bernhard Langer blew away the field on Sunday as he closed with a five-under 67 to win the Triton Financial Classic by six strokes.

Langer collected his seventh Champions Tour victory at 15-under-par 201, which matched the tournament scoring record at The Hills Country Club. Scott Hoch set the original mark of 201 in 2007.

"I putted well thankfully as this course can grab you on any hole," said Langer, who collected $240,000 for the win. "I enjoy playing in Texas. I won twice [on the PGA Tour] in Houston and at Colonial."

Mark O'Meara took second at minus-nine after a two-under 70 in the final round. Dana Quigley posted a three-under 69 to end at eight-under-par 208.

Langer, who led by a shot entering the final round, did little to cough up his lead.

The German opened with an eight-foot birdie putt on the first and came back two holes later with a two-putt birdie on the third. He still led by one as Gene Jones, also birdied the first and third.

Langer started to pull away with birdies on the sixth and eighth. That pushed his lead to three and he then parred four straight around the turn.

The Hall of Famer did trip to a bogey on the 13th after his ball plugged in a fairway bunker off the tee. Langer came right back with a six-foot birdie putt on 14 to push his lead to six.

Langer carded his final birdie on the par-five 17th, from 20 feet out, to close out the wire-to-wire win.

"I felt I played flawless golf on the front nine. Gene and I both played well on the front nine and we pushed each other," Langer said of Jones, his playing partner. "The big momentum turn was at 10, where I made a good par putt, which was huge."

O'Meara looked like he was going to make a run at Langer, but two holes did him in. O'Meara birdied six, nine and 11 to get to within three of Langer.

However, O'Meara tripped to a bogey on the 13th. He erased that mistake with a birdie on 14, but trouble loomed. O'Meara faltered to a double-bogey on the 15th. He managed solo second thanks to a birdie at the last.

Jones played the 11th through 15th in plus-five with three bogeys and a double-bogey. Those struggles led to a two-over 74 that left him in a share of fourth at seven-under-par 209. He was joined there by Scott Hoch (71) and Larry Mize (69).

John Cook, Fred Funk, Jay Haas, Tom Kite and John Morse shared seventh at minus-five.
