Austin, TX (My Sportsbook) - Bernhard Langer continued to lead the Triton Financial Classic after shooting a three-under 69 in the second round on Saturday.
Chasing his third win of the season, Langer recovered from two late bogeys to finish 36 holes at 10-under-par 134. The two-time Masters champion leads Gene Jones (66) by a shot.
Jeff Sluman and Mark O'Meara are two strokes further back at seven-under 137 after both players posted 69s in the second round at The Hills Country Club.
Three more top names on the Champions Tour -- Jay Haas (68), Tom Kite (70) and Scott Hoch (69) -- share fifth place at six-under 138.
Langer made his first birdie Saturday on a 15-foot putt at No. 3, then later chipped-in for birdie from 18 feet at No. 7. He closed his front nine with an 18-foot birdie putt at No. 9.
Trouble loomed at the 12th, where Langer three-putted from 35 feet for his first bogey. He bounced back with a 12-foot birdie putt two holes later at the 14th.
Langer then went bogey-birdie at the 16th and 17th holes. He secured his lead by holing a 10-footer for birdie at 17.
"It's better to be ahead by one (shot) than behind," said Langer, who won the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in January, then claimed the Legends of Golf tournament with Tom Lehman in April.
Langer, after opening with a 65 in Friday's first round, said the course played a lot tougher on Saturday. The pin placements in particular had Langer puzzled.
"When you throw wind in, it starts to make a difference," he said.
Langer, who holds a lead of more than $300,000 on the money list, already owns six career wins on the over-50 tour -- twice as many as the 51-year-old German won on the PGA Tour.
A talented pack will tail him as he chases No. 7 on Sunday.
"If Gene (Jones) and I play well tomorrow, it might be difficult for some of the other guys," said Langer. "We've got a little space between us."
