Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - Brad Stuart opened the scoring for Detroit, but Pittsburgh's Ruslan Fedotenko tied the score with 1:23 remaining in the first period of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals from Joe Louis Arena. Three-time Cup-winner Chris Osgood made six saves for the Red Wings in the opening 20 minutes, while his counterpart Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 10 shots. Detroit and the Penguins are battling to lay claim to hockey's silver prize for the second straight year, the first repeat matchup since the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers clashed in 1983 and '84. Pittsburgh is looking to apply the painful lessons learned from last year's six-game loss to Detroit, while the Red Wings are vying to become the first club to repeat as champions since they did it themselves in 1997 and '98. Detroit had an excellent chance in the early stages of the game, but Henrik Zetterberg's sizzling one-timer off a feed from Dan Cleary rang off the right post. The home team opened the scoring with 6:22 remaining in the first period. On two occasions the Pittsburgh defense failed to clear the puck out of its zone. Stuart launched a shot from the left point that sailed wide of the net, took a friendly carom off the lively end boards and went in off Fleury's right leg. Fedotenko deposited the rebound of a Evgeni Malkin shot, which Osgood failed to cover completely, to draw Pittsburgh even.
