Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Abby Wambach returned to international competition for the first time since breaking her leg last July as the United States Women's National Team earned a convincing 4-0 win over Canada at BMO Field in a friendly on Monday. Shannon Boxx opened the scoring just two minutes into the game while Megan Rapinoe scored in first-half stoppage time to make it 2-0 at the break. Lindsay Tarpley added a third goal in the 77th minute and Lauren Cheney capped the scoring just three minutes later with a goal of her own. Monday's match is the first of three games between the border rivals this summer, with the next two taking place in the United States on July 19 and July 22. Boxx got things started early as she caught Canada goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc off guard with a 25-yard shot that found the bottom left corner to give the Americans the lead inside of two minutes. It took until right before halftime for the lead to be doubled as Heather OReilly slipped a pass into the box for Rapinoe, who turned with the ball and curled a brilliant shot just inside the far post. Kara Lang got a rare look at goal for Canada in the 76th minute when she got the ball on the right and fired just wide of the near post, but the Americans increased their lead to 3-0 just two minutes later. Wambach set up the play by drawing LeBlanc off her line and then dropping the ball for Tarpley to slam into the empty net, while Wambach played provider again just three minutes later when she picked out Cheney with a cross to the near post that was headed home. Wambach looked good in her return to international action with a pair of assists, but she remains stuck on 99 goals for her career with the next opportunity for number 100 coming on July 19.
