East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Mavericks attempt to start the season with 10 straight victories when they face one of their toughest challenges yet by battling the
New Jersey Nets at Continental Airlines Arena Saturday.
The Mavericks, the only unbeaten team in the NBA, are off to their best start in franchise history at 9-0. The last team to start a season with 10 consecutive wins was the 2000-01 Philadelphia 76ers. The Mavericks are the fifth team since 1997-98 to open the season 9-0 or better.
Dallas is coming off an impressive 97-86 win over the Boston Celtics at the FleetCenter on Friday.
Dirk Nowitzki posted a season-high 32 points and also notched nine rebounds and seven assists to lead the Mavericks. Steve Nash chipped in 14 points and nine assists for the Mavs, who snapped Boston's six-game winning streak.
Eduardo Najera started in place of Shawn Bradley, who was fighting food poisoning, and pitched in eight points and eight rebounds. Bradley managed to play 36 minutes, totaling 10 points, five rebounds and five blocks.
Dallas, which concludes a three-game road trip Saturday, is 5-0 on the road this season and 5-0 against the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the Nets have won two straight games and three of their last four, most recently topping the Miami Heat on Friday, 93-84.
Jason Kidd poured in 33 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists to lead New Jersey.
Richard Jefferson tallied 12 points and eight boards for the Nets. Dikembe Mutombo pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and Lucious Harris netted 14 off the bench.
Forward Kenyon Martin left Friday's game with a broken nose and is questionable for Saturday's affair.
New Jersey is a perfect 5-0 at home this season and 3-0 versus the Western Conference.
The Mavs won both meetings with the Nets last season and have captured four straight overall. Dallas has won two in a row at New Jersey after dropping nine straight.
