Wilkes-Barre, PA (My Sportsbook) - The American Hockey League's Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins officially named Todd Reirden their sixth head coach in club history earlier this week. Reirden agreed to a multi-year contract from Pittsburgh Penguins Executive Vice President and General Manager, Ray Shero, after serving as interim head coach since February 18. "Todd clearly demonstrated his ability to be an AHL head coach by stepping into a challenging situation at mid-season and doing a terrific job for the Penguins organization," Shero said. "We have been very fortunate to have such outstanding young coaches as Todd Richards and Dan Bylsma in Wilkes- Barre/Scranton, and we believe that Todd will follow in their footsteps and continue the excellent coaching tradition with our AHL franchise." The 37-year-old Reirden took over head coaching duties in Wilkes-Barre on an interim basis following Dan Bylsma's promotion to the club's NHL affiliate in Pittsburgh. The AHL squad went 14-11-1 while topping the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the East Division Semifinals under Reirden.
