Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - Olympic record gold medalist Michael Phelps suffered a rare defeat in his second straight day of competition, finishing second to Frenchman Fred Bousquet in the final of the 100-meter freestyle Sunday at the Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix. On Saturday, Phelps suffered his first defeat in a year, as world record- holder Aaron Peirsol won the 100-meter backstroke in a down-to-the-wire finish. A day later, Phelps, the American record-holder in the 100 free, was beaten by a quick Bousquet, who finished the race in 48.22 seconds. Phelps was second in 49.04. The 23-year-old Phelps, competing in his first meet since a record-setting eight gold medal performance in China last August, couldn't keep up with Bousquet, the world-record holder in the 50 free.
