Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - Campbell University will again become a full member of the Big South Conference beginning July 1, 2001, league commissioner Kyle B. Kallander announced on Thursday. Campbell, a member of the Big South between 1983-94, will continue to compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference for the next two seasons. "We are excited about Campbell's return to the Big South Conference," school president Dr. Jerry M. Wallace said. "The Big South's membership is located in an area where most Campbell students, alumni and major supporters reside. We will feel at home with the excellent and well-recognized universities of the Big South and look forward to the rivalries we will share." The Big South will sponsor 17 of Campbell's 20 varsity sports, the exceptions being football (Pioneer League), women's swimming (Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association) and wrestling (independent). Campbell received the Big South's first automatic bid in the NCAA men's basketball tournament in 1992.
