Lisbon, Portugal (My Sportsbook) - Portuguese midfielder Hugo Viana has returned to Sporting Lisbon on a one-year loan from Newcastle United. Sporting will have the option to purchase the 21-year-old Portuguese international next summer when the one-year deal expires. Viana signed an extension with Newcastle prior to the move. He is tied to St. James' Park until the summer of 2008, unless Sporting purchases the youngster next year. It appeared that Viana would be a quality addition when Sir Bobby Robson bought him in 2002. He started off playing well, but soon fell out of favor and saw his playing time diminish. |
