Louisville, KY (My Sportsbook) - It appears as though Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird will run in the Preakness Stakes on May 16 at Pimlico Race Course.

After a day of speculation following the 50-1 longshot's stunning win Saturday in the Run for the Roses, both trainer Chip Woolley and co-owner Mark Allen commented that the gelding's next start would be in the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

Woolley stated on ESPN's morning show "First Take" that Mine That Bird had a jog Monday morning at Churchill Downs and would be pointed toward the Preakness if all goes well during training.

"Myself and my owners got together, we are aiming at the Preakness," said Woolley. "As long as he trains well like he did this morning."

Allen was quoted by the Thoroughbred Times as saying the Preakness is probably in the three-year-old's future.

"If he keeps going like he is, then we're going to run," Allen told the Thoroughbred Times.

Allen also said Mine That Bird would likely remain at Churchill until next week before shipping to Baltimore.

Mine That Bird's 6 3/4-length win Saturday marked the second-biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history. Only Donerail's 1913 victory produced a larger payout. The win was worth $1.4 million as the thoroughbred notched his first win of the year and fifth lifetime.

Among those Mine That Bird is expected to face in the Preakness are Kentucky Derby runner-up Pioneerof the Nile, third place finisher Musket Man and Papa Clem, who was fourth in the Run for the Roses. Other possible starters from the Kentucky Derby are Join in the Dance (7th), General Quarters (10th) and 7-2 betting favorite Friesan Fire (18th).
