(My Sportsbook) - The
San Diego Padres hope a trip back home will solve their recent woes, as the NL West-rival
Colorado Rockies pay a visit to the California coast for two games at Petco Park.
The Padres have dropped a season-high five straight games and just went 1-6 on a seven-game road trip through the Rocky Mountains and Los Angeles. They were swept in four games by the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine and suffered a 7-3 setback in Sunday's series finale.
San Diego starter Chad Gaudin absorbed the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. Jody Gerut and Brian Giles did all they could for run support by each hitting a home run for the Padres, who lost for the eighth time in their last nine games overall.
Kevin Correia is still in search of his first victory in a Padres uniform and is coming off a losing effort against Colorado on April 29 at Coors Field. Correia was roughed up for three runs and six hits in five innings of a 7-5 loss, falling to 0-2 on the season with a 4.71 earned run average.
The right-hander, who has made four starts this season, owns a 2-3 mark and a 4.04 ERA in 23 career games, six of which have been starts, against the Rockies.
Colorado also enters this series on a losing note, having sustained a 1-0 defeat in 10 innings at San Francisco on Sunday. Giants veteran Rich Aurilia stroked an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to down the Rockies, who have alternated wins and losses over their last six contests.
Rockies pitcher Jason Hammel gave up six hits, walked two, and fanned one in a six-inning start for Colorado, while Dexter Fowler, Todd Helton and Clint Barmes had the only three hits of the game for the losing team. Manuel Corpas was saddled with the loss in the 10th inning.
Jorge De La Rosa will try to pitch the Rockies back into the win column when he takes the ball Monday night. De La Rosa previously faced San Diego on April 28 in a 4-3 loss, but did not factor in the outcome of the game after being reached for two runs over six innings in a no-decision.
The lefty, who is 0-2 with a 3.57 ERA in four starts this season, sports an 0-1 mark and a 5.29 earned run average in six career games (two starts) against the Padres.
Colorado recently took two of three meetings with San Diego from April 27-29 at Coors Field and has won four of the last five matchups in the series.
