(My Sportsbook) - Young right-hander Josh Johnson tries to end a brief winless drought tonight when the
Florida Marlins host the
Cincinnati Reds in the first of two early-week games at Dolphin Stadium.
A 25-year-old old from Minneapolis, Johnson won his initial 2009 starts against Washington and the New York Mets, but has since put together three straight no-decisions against the Nationals, Philadelphia and the Mets.
Nonetheless, the Marlins are 4-1 in games in which he's pitched.
Overall, Johnson has allowed just 10 earned runs in 34 2/3 innings while walking six batters and striking out 32.
Johnson last faced Cincinnati back in 2006 and won in relief after tossing three scoreless, hitless innings.
For the Reds, 30-year-old righty Aaron Harang will try to maintain the positive side of an inconsistent season.
A 6-foot-7, 261-pounder, Harang has alternated losses and wins over his five starts, beginning with a 2-1 defeat by the New York Mets on April 6. He's since beaten Pittsburgh and the Chicago Cubs, while losing to Houston twice.
In 32 innings, Harang has allowed 33 hits and 11 earned runs.
He was 2-1 in three starts against the Marlins last season, posting a 6.98 earned run average in 19 1/3 innings while striking out 14 and walking four.
On Sunday in Pittsburgh, Johnny Cueto kept the Pirates bats silent in the finale of a three-game weekend series at PNC Park, throwing eight scoreless innings to lead Cincinnati to a 5-0 victory.
Cueto (2-1) struck out nine, allowing just four hits and a walk for the Reds, who have won three of four.
Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-3 with three RBI, Jay Bruce hit a solo homer, and Brandon Phillips had two hits while driving in a run for the victors.
In Chicago, Derrek Lee hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and the Cubs held on to down the Marlins, 6-4, in the finale of a four-game series at Wrigley Field.
John Baker went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, double and three runs scored for Florida, which has split its last six contests. Jorge Cantu, Dan Uggla, and Ricky Nolasco each had an RBI apiece in defeat.
Nolasco (1-3) took the loss after turning in a six-inning start. He was touched for six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits and fanned five without walking a batter.
Cincinnati won six of its eight matchups with the Marlins last season, but was just 2-2 in the four games contested in South Beach.
