Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Alex Rios' solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference, as the Toronto Blue Jays used clutch two-out hitting to defeat the Baltimore Orioles, 4-3, and complete a three- game sweep at Rogers Centre.

Vernon Wells clubbed a two-run homer and Rod Barajas added an RBI double for the Blue Jays, who have won five of their last eight games.

Scott Richmond (4-0) was efficient on the mound for Toronto, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on five hits and striking out six in a solid seven- inning start. Jesse Carlson hurled a perfect eighth and Scott Downs tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save.

"Another good ballgame by Scott Richmond," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said. "He pitched a great game for us. Once again, as I always said about him, he gives you a chance to win."

Luke Scott blasted a two-run homer for the Orioles, who have lost six in a row and eight of nine overall. Jeremy Guthrie (2-2) gave up four runs on six hits over eight innings to take the loss.

"I personally and I can speak for all of us in this room. We play to win and that's what makes this game fun," Scott said. "It's frustrating, but we go through tough times. Everyone goes through tough times, no matter if it's in baseball and life. You just have to dig deep and see what you are made of and keep a positive attitude."

Toronto jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Rios smacked a two-out double and Wells belted a hanging curveball over the left-field wall.

The Orioles quickly responded in its next turn at the plate. Melvin Mora reached on a force out and Scott hit a line drive homer to right.

Back-to-back two-out doubles in the fourth by Lyle Overbay and Barajas gave Toronto a 3-2 lead, but the visitors tied the game in the fifth. Cesar Izturis led off the frame with a walk, advanced to second on a grounder and eventually scored on a throwing error.

Nick Markakis, who had a 17-game hitting streak halted in Saturday's loss, hit a dribbler in front of the plate. Barajas fielded the ball cleanly, but Overbay couldn't snag the high throw at first. Markakis was credited with a single and Izturis scampered home on the play.

Rios restored the lead with a two-out blast in the home half of the fifth.

Game Notes

Markakis has reached base safely in 34 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the majors...Baltimore placed pitcher Dennis Sarfate on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of a circulatory condition...Orioles manager Dave Trembley was ejected in the fifth inning...Baltimore is 9-22 at Rogers Centre dating back to 2006.
