Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - Derrek Lee hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and the Chicago Cubs held on to down the Florida Marlins, 6-4, in the finale of a four-game series at Wrigley Field.

Mike Fontenot turned in a two-hit effort and clubbed a solo homer for the Cubs, who took three of the four games in the series. Chicago has won four of six overall. Aaron Miles chipped in with an RBI double in the victory.

"We're playing a lot better," Lee said. "We've been so up and down this year and to go out and play three games where we put some runs on the board, got some good pitching, just three solid games in a row. That's more like us."

Carlos Zambrano (3-1) earned the win, despite leaving the game in the fifth inning with a strained left hamstring injury after legging out a bunt single. The right-hander worked five innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Kevin Gregg picked up his third save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

"I tried to get him out initially. He talked me out of it, but we did the right thing by getting him out. " Cubs manager Lou Piniella said about his decision to pull Zambrano from the game."

John Baker went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, double and three runs scored for Florida, which has split its last six contests. Jorge Cantu, Dan Uggla, and Ricky Nolasco each had an RBI apiece in defeat.

Nolasco (1-3) took the loss after turning in a six-inning start. He was touched for six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits and fanned five without walking a batter.

"It was a pitch here or there. I thought out of the six innings he pitched, four of them were pretty decent innings," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said about Nolasco's outing.

Florida opened the scoring in the top of the first. Baker singled and Hanley Ramirez doubled, putting runners on second and third. Cantu's slow roller to first brought in Baker to give the Marlins the early edge.

A pair of two-out doubles in the bottom of the second allowed the Cubs to pull even at 1-1. First it was Geovany Soto lacing a two-bagger into the right- center field gap, then Miles tied in with a line drive two-base hit to center.

Fontenot gave the Cubs a 2-1 advantage in the fourth when he belted a 3-2 fastball into the right-field stands with one out. Florida then re-tied the ballgame in the top of the fifth on an RBI ground out by Nolasco.

Chicago then grabbed the lead in the home half of the fifth. Zambrano started the frame with a bunt base-hit, but had to leave the contest after suffering a strained left hamstring. Two batters later Ryan Theriot reached on a bunt single and Kosuke Fukudome got on base on an error by right fielder Ross Gload that loaded the bases. Lee then hammered a 1-0 hanging curveball over the center-field fence for his ninth career grand slam, putting the Cubs in front 6-2.

Uggla's sac fly in the sixth got the Marlins to within three. Baker hit a solo homer to left in the eighth to make it a 6-4 ballgame.

In the ninth, Gregg gave up a two-out single to Wes Helms, but retired Emilio Bonifacio the end the game.

Game Notes

The Cubs will resume their six-game homestand against San Francisco on Monday, while Florida begins a four-game homestand versus Cincinnati...Prior to the game, the Cubs retired the No. 31 worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins and four-time NL Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux...Florida was 0- for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded six, while the Cubs finished 2-for-5 with RISP and left four on base.
