Brewers edge D'Backs to earn series split

Milwaukee, WI (My Sportsbook) - Chris Duffy's run-scoring groundout in the eighth inning proved to be the game-winner, as Milwaukee bested Arizona, 4-3, earning a split of this four-game set.

Milwaukee's Dave Bush was solid in a no-decision, allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in a seven-inning start. Mitch Stetter (1-0) hurled a perfect eighth to get the win, and Trevor Hoffman closed the door in the ninth for his third save of the season.

"Both teams played well, we just came up short. Bush had some good stuff early in the game. We were just lucky to get to him later on," D'Backs outfielder Justin Upton said.

Prince Fielder and Mike Cameron each homered for the Brewers, who finished up a 5-2 homestand.

Juan Gutierrez (1-2) took the loss in relief of Yusmeiro Petit, who gave up three runs on four hits in five frames for the Diamondbacks, winners in three of four coming into the game.

Mark Reynolds, Upton and Miguel Montero each slugged solo homers in the seventh frame off Bush to provide the Arizona offense, tying the game, 3-3.

Gutierrez worked a scoreless seventh but was pulled after allowing a leadoff single to J.J. Hardy and a one-out walk to Fielder in the eighth. Tony Pena came in from the bullpen, and Cameron blooped a single in front of a diving Upton in right field, loading the bases.

Duffy's sharp grounder to second was enough to score Hardy, and Hoffman fanned two before getting Conor Jackson on a tapper in front of the plate to end the game.

"It was nice to see Duffy put the ball in play there," Brewers manager Ken Macha said. "The second baseman made a great play on Duffy's ball, but fortunately we were able to capitalize on it. [Duffy] put the ball in play, that was key."

Fielder and Cameron hit back-to-back round-trippers in the second, and Corey Hart beat out an infield single to score Bill Hall for a 3-0 Brewers lead in the fifth.

Game Notes

It was the third straight sellout at Miller Park...The Brewers' Ryan Braun sat out for the second straight game with a bad back...Arizona has not won a series in Milwaukee since September 19-21, 2003...Bush owns a 4-1 career record in six starts versus the Diamondbacks...D'Backs reliever Tom Gordon left the game in the sixth inning after injuring his leg covering home on a wild pitch.
