Louisville, KY (My Sportsbook) - I Want Revenge, the morning-line favorite for the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby, was scratched from Saturday's race. After a morning gallop in preparation for the Run for the Roses, I Want Revenge had problems with his left front ankle. The three-year-old was examined before owner David Lanzman, along with trainer Jeff Mullins, made the decision not to run the colt. "I can't look back at what might have been," said Lanzman at a Saturday morning news conference. "When the word came out that running could hurt the horse, there was no debate." I Want Revenge was installed as the 3-1 favorite when post positions were drawn on Wednesday. "We could tell that he wasn't 100 percent," Mullins said Saturday. "We felt it was the best interest in the horse not to run. We're going to do the right thing by him. The doctors said he'll come back 100 percent." I Want Revenge won the Gotham Stakes in March and the Wood Memorial in April at Aqueduct after finishing third in his first start of the year at the Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita. The defection leaves 19 three-year-olds in the field.
