Louisville, KY (My Sportsbook) - Leading three-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra easily captured Friday's $500,000 Kentucky Oaks, the sister race to the Kentucky Derby. The 3-10 odds-on favorite ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.87 on a fast Churchill Downs track.
Ridden by Calvin Borel, Rachel Alexandra was bumped a little leaving the gate by Gabby's Golden Gal who set the pace. Gabby's Golden Gal took the field into the backstretch with the favorite to her outside in second and Be Fair in third along the inside.
Around the turn for home Rachel Alexandra quickly took the lead from Gabby's Golden Gal and established herself in front entering the stretch. The favorite ran away from her six rivals to win the Oaks by 20 1/4-lengths.
Finishing second was Stone Legacy followed by Flying Spur, Be Fair, Nan, Gabby's Golden Gal and Tweeter.
Justwhistledixie, the 5-2 program second choice, was scratched from the race Friday afternoon with an abscess of her left front foot.
Owned by L and M Partners, Rachel Alexandra remains perfect in her four starts this year. Friday's victory was worth $300,000 to brings her career earnings to $921,440. Hal Wiggins trains the filly who has seven wins in 10 lifetime starts.
A winner of her last five starts, Rachel Alexandra has won the Fantasy Stakes, Fair Grounds Oaks and Martha Washington Stakes in 2009. Calvin Borel can pull off the Oaks-Derby double with a winning ride Saturday aboard Mine That Bird.
Rachel Alexandra returned $2.60, $2.20 and $2.10. Stone Legacy paid $11.00 and $5.00, and Flying Spur paid $2.80 to show.
