(My Sportsbook) - Armando Galarraga goes for his fourth win of the season this evening, when the
Detroit Tigers welcome the
Cleveland Indians to town for the first of three games at Comerica Park.
Galarraga, who led the Tigers with 13 wins last season, improved to 3-0 Sunday in Kansas City, as he held the Royals to a run and three hits in six innings to lower his earned run average to 1.85. He also struck out seven, but walked a season-high five batters.
The 27-year-old righty has seen his walk total rise in each start and has issued 11 free passes in 24 1/3 innings this season.
Galarraga, who has allowed one earned run in his two wins at home this season, is unbeaten in five starts against the Indians, posting a 3-0 mark to go along with a 3.62 ERA.
Detroit enters tonight's opener after dropping the final two contests of their three-game series with the New York Yankees, including an 8-6 loss in Wednesday's finale. Curtis Granderson had a three-run homer for the Tigers, who are 3-4 over their last seven games.
Placido Polanco and Gerald Laird drove in a run each in the setback. Rick Porcello (1-3) was dealt the loss after giving up six runs on as many hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge went 1-for-2, scored twice, drove in a run and has now reached base safely in all 21 games this year.
Cleveland, meanwhile, dropped two of three to the Boston Red Sox after losing the series finale, 6-5, in 10 innings Wednesday in disappointing fashion. The Indians blew a five-run lead before allowing Jonathan Van Every's game-winning solo home run in the top of the 10th.
Mark DeRosa and Kelly Shoppach each homered for the Indians, who have lost four of six and continue to remain in the cellar of the AL Central. Fausto Carmona, though, turned in his best start of the season, giving up only two runs on five hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings.
Jensen Lewis (2-3) served up Van Every's blast - the first big league home run of the Red Sox outfielder's career - and was saddled with the loss.
Hoping to get the Indians back into the win column this evening will be right- hander Carl Pavano, who is 0-3 with a 9.50 ERA and will be facing the Tigers for the first time in his career. Pavano was hammered by the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, as he allowed five runs and 11 hits in five innings.
In his three losses this season, Pavano has yielded 18 runs and 25 hits in 12 innings.
Cleveland won 11 of its 18 matchups with the Tigers last season and is 12-7 in its 19 most recent visits to Motown.
