(My Sportsbook) - Mark Buehrle takes aim at a fourth straight winning start for the
Chicago White Sox this evening in the opener of a three-game series with the hosting
Texas Rangers in Arlington.
Buehrle has won all three of his starts since getting a no-decision to begin the year. He has allowed more than two runs in only one of his outings while pitching to a 3.00 earned run average on the season. The left-hander faced Toronto on Saturday and allowed only two runs over six innings.
The 30-year-old hasn't won four straight decisions since doing so over five starts from June 7-29 of last year and previously won four consecutive starts from May 3-18, 2005.
Buehrle has won three of his last four decisions versus the Rangers, notching a shutout and 2.30 ERA in that span, and is 10-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 16 games (13 starts) lifetime against the club.
After splitting a doubleheader with Seattle on Tuesday, the White Sox posted a 6-3 victory on Wednesday to earn their first series win since they took three of four from Tampa Bay from April 16-19.
Chicago got three homers in the game, including back-to-back solo shots from Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye in the seventh inning. Quentin ended with two RBI and A.J. Pierzynski also went deep as part of a three-hit effort. Bobby Jenks notched his fifth save with a perfect ninth.
The Rangers, meanwhile, were mere inches away from entering May above .500, but instead sit at 10-11 after Thursday's 4-2 loss to Oakland. Trailing by the eventual final margin, Ian Kinsler drove a pitch to center in the eighth inning that appeared to be a go-ahead, three-run homer, but the Athletics' Ryan Sweeney made a leaping catch at the wall for a very long out to end the inning.
Vicente Padilla (1-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits in six-plus innings of work. Hank Blalock and Andruw Jones had a solo homer each in the setback, Texas' second in the last four games.
Already without slugger Josh Hamilton for a fourth straight game due to a strained rib cage muscle, catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia left the contest early due to irritation in his eye.
Hamilton isn't expected back until next week at the earliest, while Saltalamacchia's status is unknown.
Scott Feldman is expected to make a second straight start today, but it could be his last with Kris Benson's return looming. Feldman began the year with three bullpen appearances and was tagged for nine runs in only 6 2/3 total innings.
However, in his start versus Baltimore on Saturday, the right-handed Feldman got the win after yielding only a run and four hits in five innings to lower his earned run average from 12.12 to 7.71.
Feldman is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA in six career outings, including one start, versus the White Sox.
These two clubs split six meetings last year, with the Rangers winning two of three at home.
