Arlington, TX (My Sportsbook) - Dallas Braden was solid on the hill while Ryan Sweeney went 2-for-5 and made a game-saving catch in the eighth, as the Oakland Athletics took the finale of a rain-shortened three-game set from the Rangers, 4-2. Braden (3-2) gave up five hits with six strikeouts and four walks over five scoreless innings to get the win. Michael Wuertz got his first save of the year despite giving up a homer in the ninth. Matt Holliday had a solo homer, while Landon Powell, Kurt Suzuki and Jack Cust drove in a run each in the win. Vicente Padilla (1-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits in six-plus innings of work. Hank Blalock and Andruw Jones had a solo homer each in the setback, Texas' second in the last four games. Texas slugger Josh Hamilton was out of the lineup for a fourth straight game due to a strained rib cage muscle.

Final Score: Kansas City 8, Toronto 6

Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - John Buck finished 3-for-3 with two triples and five RBI as Kansas City topped Toronto, 8-6, in the finale of a four-game set from Kauffman Stadium. Billy Butler added two hits, a run driven in and two scored for the Royals, who won three of four in the series and scored 27 total runs. Kyle Davies (2-1) yielded seven hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings, walking three without a strikeout for the win. Davies was backed by his infielders, who tied a team record by turning six double plays. Adam Lind hit a two-run homer and Marco Scutaro added a solo shot for the Blue Jays, losers in four of their last six overall. Travis Snider, Raul Chavez and Vernon Wells each added an RBI in the setback. Brian Burres (0-2) took the loss, charged with five hits and six runs -- four earned -- over his two-plus inning start.

Final Score: New York 7, LA Angels of Anaheim 4

Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - Ramiro Pena's first two career RBI came as part of a game-changing three-run eighth inning, as the New York Yankees beat the Angels, 7-4, in the opener of a four-game set. Johnny Damon had a solo homer and Hideki Matsui went 1-for-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 10 games for New York, which won its third straight on the heels of a four-game slide. Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to a single- season career-high 17 games with a single in the eighth. Mark Teixeira, who appeared in 54 games for the Halos, hitting .358 to help the club secure their fourth AL West crown in the last five years, went 1-for-4 with a walk and scored in the win. Derek Jeter went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, which gives the team captain 1,014 for his career. That moves him past Bob Meusel for sole possession of 10th place on the franchise's all-time RBI list. A.J. Burnett didn't factor in the decision after he went seven frames and gave up four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts against one walk. Phil Coke (1-1) got the win after hurling a perfect eighth inning and Mariano Rivera earned his fifth save of the year with a scoreless ninth. Mike Napoli had a solo homer for the Angels, who were denied a bid for their season-high fourth straight win. Maicer Izturis, Chone Figgins and Erick Aybar drove in a run each in the setback. Bobby Abreu, who spent the last two-plus seasons with the Yankees before signing in LA as a free agent this offseason, went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Anthony Ortega lasted 6 1/3 innings and gave up four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits in his second career start. Justin Speier (0-1) was tagged with the loss after he gave up all three runs while recording just one out in the eighth.

Final Score: Tampa Bay 13, Boston 0

St. Petersburg, FL (My Sportsbook) - Matt Garza threw a nearly flawless 7 2/3 innings as the Tampa Bay Rays crushed the Boston Red Sox, 13-0, in the opener of a four-game set. Garza (2-2) took a perfect game into the seventh inning and gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out 10 for the Rays, who had dropped four of five coming into the contest. The Tampa Bay offense matched the excellent pitching performance with an 18-hit game. Evan Longoria went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, four RBI and three runs scored while Michel Hernandez had four hits, including a solo home run, and three RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury had the lone hit for the Red Sox, who have dropped two of three on the heels of an 11-game winning streak. Josh Beckett (2-2) was clobbered for seven runs on 10 hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of work.
