Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - John Buck finished 3-for-3 with two triples and five RBI as Kansas City topped Toronto, 8-6, in the finale of a four-game set from Kauffman Stadium.
Billy Butler added two hits, a run driven in and two scored for the Royals, who won three of four in the series and scored 27 total runs.
Kyle Davies (2-1) yielded seven hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings, walking three without a strikeout for the win. Davies was backed by his infielders, who tied a team record by turning six double plays.
Adam Lind hit a two-run homer and Marco Scutaro added a solo shot for the Blue Jays, losers in four of their last six overall. Travis Snider, Raul Chavez and Vernon Wells each added an RBI in the setback.
"It's really hard to win a ballgame. We still score six runs, but we hit into six double plays, so we lost as a team today," Jays manager Cito Gaston said. The six double-play groundouts set a team record for a nine-inning game.
Brian Burres (0-2) took the loss, charged with five hits and six runs -- four earned -- over his two-plus inning start.
Jose Guillen's RBI single early in the third inning gave KC a two-run advantage and chased Burres. Bryan Bullington entered and promptly gave up a run-scoring double to Butler and a sacrifice fly from Buck and the home team took a 6-2 lead.
Buck added a two-run triple in the fifth for an 8-2 game, before Aaron Hill walked, went to third on an Alex Rios double and scored on a Wells groundout in the sixth.
"I wouldn't have predicted it (two triples in one game) before the season started, but I'll take it," said Buck.
Snider's RBI single in the seventh off Ron Mahay cut Toronto's deficit to 8-4, and Jamey Wright prevented further damage by inducing a double-play grounder from Scutaro and a fielder's choice grounder from Rios.
Lind reduced the Jays' deficit to 8-6 with a two-run home run in the eighth, then the Royals once again dodged a bullet with a strikeout and double play to end the inning.
Juan Cruz, pitching in place of normal closer Joakim Soria, retired the side in order in the ninth for his first save of the season.
The game began on an up note for the visitors as Scutaro led off the contest with a solo home run, but the Royals countered in the home half as Coco Crisp tripled and scored on a Willie Bloomquist grounder.
In the second, a Chavez single put the Jays up 2-1, but Buck's two-run triple staked the Royals to a 3-2 edge.
