(My Sportsbook) - The
Toronto Blue Jays hope to avoid their first series loss of the season this afternoon when they wrap up a four-game set with the
Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
On Wednesday, Zack Greinke became the majors' first five-game winner and Billy Butler blasted his first two homers of the year and finished 4-for-5 with four runs scored in an 11-3 Kansas City win.
Greinke (5-0) allowed an earned run for the first time in 43 innings, yielding two runs on five hits and two walks while fanning eight in seven frames.
Mark Teahen had a two-run homer while Mike Aviles tripled, doubled and knocked in a pair of runs in the win.
Aaron Hill had a pair of hits, while Vernon Wells became the first player this season to record an RBI off Greinke, as the Blue Jays lost for the third time in five games.
Brian Tallet (1-1), in his ninth start out of 159 career appearances, was highly ineffective, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits and three walks in four-plus innings. He struck out two in the loss.
The Jays have yet to lose back-to-back games this season.
Hoping to avoid that for the Jays today will be left-hander Brian Burres, who will be trying to bounce back from an awful season debut on Saturday. Burres was pounded by the Chicago White Sox in that one, as he allowed six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Burres is 0-1 lifetime against the Royals with a 3.75 ERA in three games (two starts).
Kansas City will counter with righty Kyle Davies, who is 1-1 this season with a 4.88 ERA. Davies was charged with the loss on Saturday against Detroit, as he surrendered seven runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Davies has faced the Jays twice and is 1-1, but has given up 10 runs and 15 hits in 11 innings of those outings (8.18 ERA).
Kansas City beat the Blue Jays the first two times the teams met last season, but Toronto won the final five meetings.
