Hernandez helps Nats halt Phils' five-game win streak

Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Anderson Hernandez had three hits and two runs batted in, as the Washington Nationals avoided a three-game sweep by logging a 4-1 win against Philadelphia, snapping the Phillies' season-high five-game win streak.

Scott Olsen (1-3) lasted 5 2/3 innings, yielding just six hits and one run to pick up his first win this season. The hard-luck lefty, who walked two and struck out six, had dropped his first three decisions of 2009 for the first time in his career despite allowing just two earned runs in each of his last two outings.

"I went to my slider a lot. I was able to consistently throw it near the strike zone and make them chase," Olsen said. "I think it put them on the defensive a little bit because I was ahead in the count, so it kind of opens up the strike zone for me."

Ryan Zimmerman achieved a career-high with a hit in 18 straight games, ending with a double, walk, run scored and RBI for the Nats, who had lost five of their last six. Elijah Dukes collected a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Brett Myers (1-2) went six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits and three walks with as many strikeouts in the loss. Shane Victorino accounted for the Phils' lone run with a homer in the game's opening frame, pushing his hit streak to 10 games.

"I kind of got a little bit upset with myself too much, and I was missing my spots," Myers said. "I'm better than that, and it usually doesn't happen, but tonight it did. I tried to correct it immediately when I realized that I let it get to me."

The Phillies were attempting to sweep a divisional foe for a second consecutive series after winning three straight against the Marlins last weekend. The defending world champions will face the rival Mets for the first time this season in a weekend series at Citizens Bank Park.

The club had lost five of seven prior to their most recent win streak.

Victorino's shot into the left-field seats gave the Phils an early 1-0 lead in the first, but it was all Nationals from there.

Washington tied the game with a run in the third. Hernandez lined a one-out double to right and took third on a Cristian Guzman fielder's choice. Myers then walked Nick Johnson to load the bases and forced in the run with another walk to Zimmerman.

The Phillies best chance for runs came in the fourth, when they loaded the bases on singles from Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth and a walk by Raul Ibanez.

Pedro Feliz was then retired with a fly out to right, and Chris Coste grounded out to third to end the threat.

The Nats made it a 3-1 game with a pair of runs in the sixth. Zimmerman doubled to start the frame and scored on a Dukes single back through the middle two batters later. Josh Willingham followed with a single, moving Dukes to second, and Hernandez came through with a two-out RBI base hit to right.

Hernandez doubled home Willie Harris in the eighth off Jack Taschner to provide some insurance, and Julian Tavarez worked around a two-out single by Jimmy Rollins in the ninth to record his first save this season.

Game Notes

These two clubs split a rain-shortened two-game set in Washington from April 13-16, although the Phillies have still won 14 of the last 19 in the series and seven of the last nine at home...Rollins and Howard had two hits apiece for Philadelphia.
