Angels nip Orioles behind Hunter, Morales homers

Baltimore, MD (My Sportsbook) - Torii Hunter and Kendry Morales hit back-to- back home runs in the seventh to help the LA Angels of Anaheim take a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles and sweep a two-game set at Camden Yards.

Morales drove in the other run with a triple and Shane Loux (1-2) got the win as he gave up just one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six-plus innings of work for the Angels, who have won three straight.

Nick Markakis and Aubrey Huff each had an RBI for the Orioles, who have lost five of their last six. Koji Uehara (2-2) was saddled with the loss for giving up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings of work.

"Our offense is going good. You're not going to get 10 hits every game," said Markakis. "You're going to have close games like that. We have to go out there and keep swinging it."

Baltimore took the lead in the first inning. Brian Roberts led off with a single, Adam Jones followed with a single and Markakis's walk loaded the bases. Huff then flied out to center, which allowed Roberts to score for a 1-0 lead.

"You only give up one or two runs early in the game...it usually takes me a couple of innings to get into a rhythm," said Loux. "That's been my way my whole career. I knew if I could get through those first couple of innings, keeping the damage down, I knew we would have a good chance."

In the fourth, though, the Angels tied the contest. Maicer Izturis led off with a single and later moved to second on a groundout by Hunter. Morales then lofted a deep fly ball that was just out of reach of Jones in center field for a triple and a 1-1 game.

In the seventh, the Angels took the lead as Hunter led off by ripping a pitch deep into the left field stands, while Morales followed with a shot that just cleared the wall in center field for a 3-1 lead.

Baltimore threatened in the bottom of the seventh as Chad Moeller led off with a double. Justin Speier was then called out of the bullpen to preserve the lead, and he did his job as he struck out Felix Pie and pinch-hitter Lou Montanez then got Roberts to line out and end the inning.

The Orioles did get one back in the eighth. With Jose Arredondo on the mound for the Angels, Jones led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and Markakis brought him home with a single. However, Huff struck out, Markakis was caught stealing and Luke Scott then struck out to end the frame.

Brian Fuentes retired the O's in order in the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Game Notes

The Angels continue their road trip in New York on Thursday to start a four- game series with the Yankees...Baltimore begins a three-game set in Toronto on Friday...The Angels took six of nine games against Baltimore last season...Markakis extended his hitting streak to 16 games...Hunter has eight home runs on the season.
