(My Sportsbook) - Zack Greinke attempts to become the majors' first five-game winner this evening, when the
Kansas City Royals play the third test of their four-game series against the
Toronto Blue Jays at Kauffman Stadium.
Greinke has been absolutely amazing for the Royals in the early going, winning all four of his starts while surrendering just one unearned run in 29 innings.
The 25-year-old right-hander had his scoreless innings streak dating back to last season end at 38 Friday against Detroit, as the Tigers managed an unearned run in the fifth frame against him. Detroit, though, only totaled three hits in the loss, as Greinke struck out 10 while tossing his second straight complete game.
Greinke will have his work cut out for him tonight, as the Blue Jays have crossed the plate a major-league best 133 times. He is also just 1-3 lifetime against Toronto with a 5.12 ERA in seven games, five of which have been starts.
Toronto will counter with left-hander Brian Tallet, who is coming off his first win of the season as a starter. In his second start filling in for the injured Jesse Litsch, Tallet defeated the Chicago White Sox on Friday, scattering four hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.95.
Tallet has never started against the Royals, but is 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA in six appearances as a reliever against them.
After Kansas City cruised to a 7-1 win in Monday's opener, Toronto returned the favor on Tuesday, as Scott Richmond pitched seven strong innings and Vernon Wells drove in three runs to help the Blue Jays to an 8-1 triumph.
Richmond (3-0) allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts for the Blue Jays, who have won five of their last seven games overall. Aaron Hill finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and Marco Scutaro scored twice in the win.
David DeJesus drove in the lone Kansas City run with an RBI double in the fifth inning for the Royals, who have dropped three of their last four contests.
Gil Meche (1-2) suffered the loss after he allowed five runs on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings. He left the game with lower back tightness and is considered day-to-day.
Kansas City beat the Blue Jays the first two times the teams met last season, but Toronto won the final five meetings.
