(My Sportsbook) - The
Boston Red Sox try to start another winning streak this evening, when they play the rubber match of their three-game series with the
Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.
Cleveland put an end to the Red Sox' 11-game win streak on Tuesday, as Mark DeRosa finished 4-for-5 with a home run and four runs scored, including the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the ninth in the Indians' 9-8 win.
DeRosa began the home half of the ninth with a single off Javier Lopez (0-2), and Ben Francisco sacrificed him to second. Grady Sizemore fanned swinging before Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis made a great diving stop on a grounder by Asdrubal Cabrera. However, Lopez completely dropped the throw as he stepped on first base, allowing DeRosa to come home safely.
Francisco had two hits, including a three-run homer, for the Indians, who have won two of their last three games. Ryan Garko and Victor Martinez also knocked in a run each.
Kerry Wood (1-1) allowed two hits in the ninth but posted the win. Indians starter Anthony Reyes was tagged for nine hits and seven runs over two-plus innings.
Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury each drove in two runs for the Red Sox, who suffered their first defeat since April 14 at Oakland after wasting an early four-run lead.
Hoping to get the Red Sox back on track tonight will be left-hander Jon Lester, who is 1-2 with a 4.88 earned run average. Lester did not factor in the decision of his last start on Friday against the New York Yankees, as he allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings of his team's 5-4 win. That start had followed up a brilliant seven scoreless-inning performance against Baltimore to get his first win of the year.
Lester has faced the Indians four times and is 2-0 with a 4.03 ERA lifetime against them.
Cleveland will counter with righty Fausto Carmona, who has lost three of his four starts this season. Carmona absorbed the loss on Friday against Minnesota, as he surrendered five runs (4 earned) and eight hits in six innings.
Carmona, who is 1-2 lifetime against the Red Sox, has allowed four earned runs or more in all four of his starts this season.
Boston won five of its six games with the Indians last season and is 11-4 against them since the start of the 2007 campaign, including wins in six of its last eight matchups in Cleveland.
