Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The San Diego Padres purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Chad Gaudin from Triple-A Portland on Monday. The Padres designated right-handed relief pitcher Eulogio De La Cruz for assignment to make room on the roster. Gaudin was released by the Chicago Cubs at the end of spring training and signed a minor league deal with San Diego on April 12. In two starts -- 8 2/3 scoreless innings -- with Portland, Gaudin fanned 10 batters, allowed five hits, and walked two. The 26-year-old Gaudin will start against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. In 2008, Gaudin made 50 appearances between Oakland and the Cubs -- only six of them starts. He went 9-5 with a 4.40 earned run average overall last season. Gaudin's last full season as a starter came in 2007 with the A's. In 34 starts, Gaudin went 11-13 with a 4.42 ERA. In 199 1/3 innings, he struck out 154 and walked 100. In six MLB seasons with Tampa Bay, Toronto, Oakland and Chicago, Gaudin owns a 28-25 record with a 4.45 ERA in 185 games -- 50 starts.
