Elmont, NY (My Sportsbook) - Florida Derby winner Quality Road has been taken out of contention for this year's Kentucky Derby. The colt has been battling a pair of quarter-cracks since his victory at Gulfstream Park. Quality Road, owned by Edward Evans, developed a quarter-crack of the right hind foot following his win in the Florida Derby. That injury was repaired, but a second quarter-crack of the right front foot was discovered last week. Hoof specialist Ian McKinlay has been treating the latest injury after patching the original quarter-crack. Trainer Jimmy Jerkens cancelled a Monday morning workout at Belmont Park's training track. Quality Road jogged Friday morning and galloped Sunday morning. After the Sunday gallop the colt showed some blood from the second quarter-crack. Quality Road has earnings of $632,830 with three wins in four lifetime starts. He won his only race as a two-year-old and finished second in his first start of 2009 before capturing the Fountain of Youth Stakes prior to claiming the Florida Derby over highly regarded Dunkirk.
