(My Sportsbook) - Jamie Moyer has enjoyed success throughout his career against the
Florida Marlins and will try for some more this afternoon when the
Philadelphia Phillies shoot for a three-game sweep in Miami.
Moyer has faced Florida 12 times in his career and is 11-1 with a 2.95 earned run average over that span. His only loss against the Marlins came last year on August 5 in an 8-2 defeat, as Moyer permitted two runs on six hits in five innings of work.
The left-hander, who went 4-1 in five starts against Florida a year ago, is 2-1 with a 6.35 ERA in three overall starts this season. Moyer has won back- to-back outings since losing his season opener on April 7 versus Atlanta, and is coming off a win over Milwaukee. In an 11-4 victory over the Brewers on April 21, Moyer gave up four runs in six innings to record the win. He has allowed at least four runs in each of his three trips to the hill this season.
Philadelphia rallied for another win Saturday night by handing the Marlins a 6-4 loss in 10 innings. Chase Utley and Jayson Werth each knocked in a run during the 10th inning and Eric Bruntlett evened the score at 4-4 with an RBI groundout in the ninth.
The Phillies, who handed Florida its fifth straight loss after a sizzling 11-1 start, have won two in a row and will try for their first sweep of the 2009 season. They rallied for seven runs in the ninth inning in Friday's 7-3 triumph.
Chan Ho Park gave up four runs over seven innings and Ryan Madson was credited with the win after a scoreless inning of relief. Brad Lidge pitched the bottom half of the 10th inning and struck out three batters and issued two walks for his fourth save for the Phillies, who will return home Monday to host the Nationals and Mets.
Jorge Cantu clubbed a three-run homer and Dan Uggla also homered for the Marlins, while starter Chris Volstad yielded three runs - two earned - in seven innings for the no-decision. Volstad fanned six batters and walked one. Logan Kensing absorbed the loss for giving up the two runs in the 10th inning.
The Marlins will hit the road for seven games against New York and Chicago after today's test at Dolphin Stadium.
Graham Taylor will make his major league debut for Florida today and recorded a 2-1 record with a 3.24 earned run average with Double-A Jacksonville this season. The lefty saw action with the big league club during Spring Training and is taking the spot of injured starter Andrew Miller. Miller is out with an oblique strain.
Florida won 10 of the 18 matchups with Philadelphia a year ago, but the Phillies are riding a four-game winning streak in the series.
