Savannah, GA (My Sportsbook) - Loren Roberts and Mark Wiebe teamed for an 11- under 61 Saturday and that gave them a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Legends of Golf.
Roberts and Wiebe completed 36 holes at 19-under-par 125. They lead John Cook and Joey Sindelar by a stroke. Cook and Sindelar posted a nine-under 63 Saturday.
Tom Lehman and Bernhard Langer, who shared the first-round lead with John Jacobs and Fuzzy Zoeller, are now tied for third at 17-under-par 127. They were joined in third place by Mark O'Meara and Nick Price.
This is the event that spawned the Champions Tour and it is a three-day birdie fest contested in best-ball format over all three rounds.
Roberts and Wiebe steadily climbed the leaderboard on the front nine. They birdied the first, fourth and sixth to move to 11-under. After birdies on eight and 10, an eagle on the par-five 11th moved them to 15-under.
At the par-five 13th, Roberts rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt to get them within one of the lead. Roberts sank a five-footer for birdie at 15 to gain a share of the lead at 17-under.
Wiebe did his part as he gave them the lead with a 13-footer for birdie on the 17th. They closed with another birdie at the last to secure a one-shot lead after two rounds at The Westin Savannah Harbor Resort and Spa.
"So far so good. You know, watching Loren putt is going to help anybody's putting stroke," Wiebe said. "I've watched him for two days now and I think it's contagious just watching his rhythm and how he putts and how he tries to make every putt."
Cook and Sindelar dropped in back-to-back birdies from the first, then parred their next four holes. After three straight birdies from the seventh, Cook drained a 12-footer for birdie on 10.
Another birdie on the 11th made it five in a row. Sindelar converted a six- foot birdie effort on the 13th to give them a one-shot lead at minus-17.
After Roberts and Wiebe tied them, Cook made birdie on 16 to give them the lead again a 18-under. However, they closed with pars on the final two holes to end one back.
"It's a nice number to be stuck on (63), but I don't know if that's going to hold up tomorrow. I think we have to go a little lower [Sunday]," said Cook.
The teams of Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler, Dan Forsman and Tom Purtzer, and Jacobs and Zoeller share fifth place at 16-under-par 128.
