Baltimore, MD (My Sportsbook) - Josh Fields slugged a two-run homer and John Danks continued his strong start to the season, as the
Chicago White Sox defeated the
Baltimore Orioles, 8-2, in the middle installment of a three-game series at Camden Yards.
Danks (2-0) allowed a run on four hits with three strikeouts over seven innings to get the victory. The left-hander has given up just two earned runs in his first three starts of 2009.
"I felt like I was ahead most of the time and had pretty good stuff," Danks said.
Chris Getz finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored for the White Sox, who have won seven of their last 10 games. Jim Thome added a solo blast.
Luke Scott homered for the Orioles, who snapped a five-game losing streak with Tuesday's 10-3 triumph against the defending AL Central champions. Jeremy Guthrie (2-1) was saddled with the loss after yielding five runs on eight hits in six-plus innings of work.
"Danks had the three things we were a little short on," said Baltimore manager Dave Trembley. "He had command of his pitches, movement and he changed speeds. He pitched a very good game."
Getz lined a base hit to begin the game, moved to second on a groundout and came around to score on a single by Carlos Quentin. Chicago tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Alexei Ramirez drew a one-out walk, swiped a base and trotted home on Getz' two-out single. A ground-rule double off the bat of Fields gave the visitors a three-run advantage.
Thome homered to the opposite field to lead off the third, then Scott drilled a pitch over the fence with one away in the fifth.
Fields blasted a two-run homer in the seventh off Dennis Sarfate, who replaced Guthrie after Getz singled to begin the frame.
Chicago added a pair of runs in the eighth on an RBI double by Brian Anderson and Getz's sacrifice fly.
Baltimore scratched out a run in the ninth against Matt Thornton.
