Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - The Texas Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Kris Benson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16, with right elbow tendinitis. On Monday, the club announced that Benson's scheduled start against Toronto on Wednesday was pushed back due to the injury. However, the problem became serious enough to warrant the roster move. Benson, 34, who is 1-1 with a 9.00 earned-run average in two starts this season, agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training in the offseason. He spent 2008 in Philadelphia's minor-league system while recovering from rotator cuff surgery and was released by the Phillies on August 30. In other roster moves, the Rangers acquired pitcher Darren O'Day off waivers from the New York Mets and transferred pitcher Dustin Nippert from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. O'Day appeared in four games for the Mets this season, allowing two unearned runs and five hits over three innings. Nippert has yet to see action in the majors this season. Originally placed on the DL April 5 with a right rhomboid strain in his back, he later strained a muscle in his ribcage during an April 11 rehab outing with Double-A Frisco.
