St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - Alex Burrows scored with 19 seconds remaining in the first overtime, lifting the
Vancouver Canucks to a sweep of the
St. Louis Blues with a 3-2 win in Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at Scottrade Center.
With time winding down in the extra session, Willie Mitchell cleared the puck out of his zone and down the other end. Burrows grabbed the puck along the right boards and from the right circle wristed it between the five-hole of Chris Mason to win the game.
"When I saw the puck...I was able to bring it back to my forehand. I wanted to get a shot for a rebound...and it just found a way five-hole. It's a good feeling," Burrows said of scoring the series-clincher.
Burrows also had a goal in regulation along with Kyle Wellwood while Roberto Luongo made 47 saves for the third-seeded Canucks, who swept a best-of-seven series for the first time in club history.
Brad Boyes and David Perron each had a goal while Mason stopped 33 shots in the loss for the Blues, who were in the postseason for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
"You always want to go far. You're always disappointed in losing in four games and not moving on and that's what we're looking at," St. Louis defenseman Barret Jackman said. "Maybe in the next couple days, you look back and see the accomplishments that we made but right now it's pretty disappointing."
Vancouver got on the board 5:20 into the first period as Wellwood's wrister from down low beat Mason for a 1-0 lead.
Luongo stopped all nine shots he faced in the first period.
Burrows made it a 2-0 game at the 9:23 mark of the second, tipping a Shane O'Brien pass down low.
However, the Blues scored twice in a span of 3:24 to tie the game.
The first goal came on the rush as Boyes sent a pass from the top of the right circle to the low left side where Jackman tipped it on net. Luongo made the save, but Boyes followed up the rebound and drilled it into the net.
A few minutes later, Perron was able to knock the puck home during a scrum in front to tie the game.
St. Louis had 10 shots on net in the third and Vancouver had 11, but both goaltenders were up to the task and forced the overtime, where Luongo shined with 18 stops.
