Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Home-plate umpire Kerwin Danley was taken off the field on a stretcher during Tuesday's Toronto Blue Jays- Texas Rangers game at Rogers Centre. With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Hank Blalock popped out to shortstop and in the process his bat broke around the handle and the barrel hit Danley in the side of the head. Stadium medical personnel quickly came to the attention of the veteran umpire as he laid motionless on the field. He was then strapped to a backboard and carted off the field. Hunter Wendelstedt, who was assigned second-base umpiring duties for the contest, then took over behind the plate.
