(My Sportsbook) - The
Philadelphia Flyers will get a chance to even their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series tonight, when they host the rival Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 4 at the Wachovia Center.
The fifth-seeded Flyers were down two games to none after losing the opening two tests in Pittsburgh, but were able to get on track with a win Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.
The Orange and Black will now try to even the series at two games apiece rather than give the fourth-seeded Penguins a chance to end the series on home ice in Thursday's Game 5 at Mellon Arena.
After scoring a total of six times in the first two games of the series, Philly's offense exploded in a 6-3 victory over the Penguins on Sunday.
Simon Gagne netted a pair of goals to lead the Flyers, who had lost three straight playoff games against Pittsburgh since winning Game 4 of last year's Eastern Conference finals. The Penguins won that series in five games before losing to Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals.
Claude Giroux contributed a goal and assist for the Flyers, who are trying to rebound from an 0-2 series deficit for just the third time in franchise history. Philadelphia, which is 2-11 all-time after falling behind two games to none, last overcame an 0-2 hole when they defeated the Penguins in six games during the 2000 conference semifinals.
Jeff Carter, Mike Richards and Jared Ross also scored for Philadelphia, and Martin Biron stopped 26 shots for the win.
For the Flyers, it was just the third win in nine games against the Pens this year, including the six encounters during the regular season.
Evgeni Malkin tallied twice for the Penguins, who dropped their first road playoff contest since Game 2 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals in Detroit.
Rob Scuderi added a goal while Sidney Crosby picked up a pair of helpers. Marc-Andre Fleury allowed five goals on 29 shots in defeat.
Crosby has contributed with five points in this series, but scored his only goal of the set in Game 1. Malkin, who won the Art Ross Trophy this year, has scored in each game against the Flyers and has four goals and three assists in the series.
The Flyers have won three of four all-time playoff meetings against Pittsburgh with the Pens' lone victory coming in last year's conference finals.
Philly had a 24-13-4 home record during the regular season, while Pittsburgh was 20-15-6 as the visiting team.
