(My Sportsbook) - Armando Galarraga tries to continue his impressive start to the season this evening when the
Detroit Tigers open a three-game series with the LA Angels of Anaheim at Angel Stadium.
Galarraga, who led the Tigers with 13 wins in his rookie campaign a year ago, has been even more impressive through two starts this season, winning both contests, while surrendering just one earned run in 13 1/3 frames.
Against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, Galarraga scattered four hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings to nail down the win.
Galarraga started three games against the Angels last season and was 1-0 with a 3.79 ERA in those outings.
The Tigers come into tonight's opener after winning the final two games of their three-game series with the Seattle Mariners, including an 8-2 win in Sunday's rubber match at Safeco Field. Rick Porcello recorded his first major league victory and Ramon Santiago drove in a career-high five runs in that victory.
Porcello (1-1) went seven innings and gave up a run on five hits with three strikeouts in the win.
Brandon Inge and Josh Anderson both scored twice and drove in a run for the Tigers, who have won three of their last four games.
Injuries, meanwhile, seem to have finally caught up to the two-time defending AL West champion Angels, who enter tonight's opener on the heels of getting swept by the Minnesota Twins.
The Nick Adenhart tragedy aside, the Angels are still without starters Ervin Santana, John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar, in addition to right fielder Vladimir Guerrero, who will miss a month with a pectoral tear. Also, starter Dustin Moseley was recently put on the DL with tightness in his right elbow.
The Angels were outscored 23-12 in losing all three games to the Twins over the weekend, including a 3-1 setback in Sunday's finale at the Metrodome.
Kendry Morales knocked in the lone run for the Halos in that loss, while Bobby Abreu finished 2-for-3 and scored once for the Angels, who managed a season- low four hits in the loss, their fifth in their last six tries.
Shane Loux (0-1) allowed 10 hits and three runs over seven innings for the loss.
Hoping to get the Angels back into the win column tonight will be righty Jered Weaver, who is 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA. After a solid effort to start the season, Weaver was roughed up by the Seattle Mariners in his last start on Wednesday, as he surrendered four runs and 10 hits in just five innings.
Weaver is 2-1 lifetime against the Tigers with an 8.78 ERA in three starts.
The Angels were 6-3 versus Detroit last season and are 16-9 in the series over the last three years.
