Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - The Minnesota Twins placed rookie catcher Joe Mauer on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a sore left knee. The move is retroactive to July 16. Mauer had a torn medial meniscus cartilage repaired in that same knee back on April 6, forcing him to miss nearly two months of action. He is still having problems with the injury due to his duties as the Twins' backstop. The top overall pick in the 2001 draft, Mauer is batting .308 with six homers and 17 RBI in 35 games for the Twins this season. However, he has just one hit in his last 13 at-bats. Catcher Rob Bowen was recalled from Double-A New Britain to fill the vacant roster spot.
