Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Lyle Overbay drove in the lone run of the game and Ricky Romero pitched seven solid innings as the Toronto Blue Jays edged the Oakland Athletics, 1-0, in the rubber match of a three-game series at Rogers Centre.

Romero (2-0) was brilliant over seven innings in earning the win. The left- hander scattered four hits, struck out six and walked two. The Blue Jays bullpen allowed only one hit in the final two frames. B.J. Ryan picked up his second save of the season.

"It was a total team effort out there. We left it all out on the field," Romero said. "This is what's going to make us stronger out there and I know it's the beginning, but to see our bullpen come in and just be lights out and see our defense make some unbelievable plays is what wins ballgames."

Kevin Millar scored the only run of the game as Toronto won two of the three games in the series. The Blue Jays have won four straight series to start a season for the first time since 2001.

Dallas Braden (1-2) was the hard-luck loser after surrendering a run on five hits, while striking out four and walking three in 7 1/3 innings.

"I thought he was outstanding," Athletics manager Bob Geren said about Braden. "I thought his pitch location was great."

Matt Holliday had two of the Athletics five hits.

Athletics third baseman Eric Chavez returned to the lineup after missing the last five games with a sore right shoulder and went 0-for-4.

Toronto plated the only run of the game in the second. Millar drew a lead- off walk, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Scott Rolen was retired, Overbay grounded a run-scoring single up the middle.

Oakland put runners on first and second with two outs in the fifth, but Ryan Sweeney flied out to end the frame.

Romero was then lifted after seven magnificent innings of work and Scott Downs came in for the eighth and set down the A's in order. Then after the Blue Jays were unable to get any insurance in the home half Ryan was brought on for the ninth and gave up a one-out single to Holliday.

The hard-throwing lefty settled down to strike out Jack Cust looking and got Chavez on a come-backer to the mound to end the game.

Game Notes

The Blue Jays continue their six-game homestand against Texas on Tuesday, while Oakland travels to New York to play a three-game set against the Yankees on Monday...The Athletics were swept by the Blue Jays in four games at the Rogers Centre last August, but did take all three meetings between these teams in Toronto from April 8-10, 2008.
