Weeks leads Brewers over Mets

Flushing, NY (My Sportsbook) - Rickie Weeks went 3-for-5 with a double and batted in a run, as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the New York Mets, 4-2, in the finale of a three-game set from Citi Field.

Mike Cameron hit a solo homer while Corey Hart finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk and RBI for the Brewers, who had lost the first two games of the series. Milwaukee entered Sunday's contest having won just once in its last seven games.

Jeff Suppan (1-2) took the win after allowing just two runs on eight hits and one walk in six-plus innings. He also struck out four. Todd Coffey threw the final 2 2/3 innings in scoreless fashion to record his first save.

"Any time you get a win (it's good)," Coffey said. "We've been in some tough ball games. Our record does not indicate how we're playing right now. A win here is huge. Our defense behind us played well. I pitch when I'm allowed to pitch, and I'll give us everything I've got. I'll go another inning if I have to."

Nelson Figueroa (0-1) turned in a solid start for the Mets, as he allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in six frames, and struck out three. However, he got tagged with the loss after the New York lineup went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.

"Sometimes you need the ball to bounce your way to get a win, and we didn't get that today," New York's David Wright said. "Some days you're going to catch some breaks, and some days you aren't. They made some good defensive plays, and we hit some balls right at them. Offensively, we can't put ourselves in a position where we have one chance to break a game open and have a big inning. We have to do that on a more consistent basis."

Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy each had three hits in the top two spots of the Mets' lineup, respectively, while Reyes drove in a run. Catcher Omir Santos doubled, tripled and scored a run in the loss.

Cameron's long home run to left-center field gave the Brewers a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth. It turned out to be the deciding run, but only after the Mets staged a potentially huge rally.

Santos opened the bottom of the seventh with a triple, which ended Suppan's day. Mitch Stetter came on and struck out pinch-hitter Ryan Church, but allowed consecutive singles to Reyes and Murphy, which brought in Santos.

Stetter was then replaced by Mark DiFelice, who walked David Wright to load the bases and was immediately pulled for Coffey. He faced the dangerous Carlos Delgado, who entered the contest with 13 RBI in 11 games this season. However, Delgado grounded into an inning-ending double play to keep Milwaukee ahead.

Weeks' two-out single in the ninth drove in Jason Kendall, who had singled with one out and advanced to second on Coffey's sacrifice bunt.

It gave the Brewers a 4-2 lead and provided some crucial insurance, as Reyes singled with one down in the bottom of the ninth. After Murphy popped out, Reyes took second, but Wright lined out to second to end the game.

In the bottom of the first, Delgado sliced a double to the gap in left-center field to bring home Murphy for a 1-0 Mets lead. But Hart scored on a Prince Fielder groundout in the third and Suppan scored on a sacrifice fly from Hart in the fifth to give Milwaukee a 2-1 edge.
