Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - Jonathan Toews notched his first two career playoff goals as the Chicago Blackhawks rallied to clip the
Calgary Flames, 3-2, in Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at United Center.
Patrick Sharp added a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who followed up a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory on Thursday with another narrow triumph and lead the series two games to none.
Nikolai Khabibulin picked up the win with a 30-save effort.
Jarome Iginla posted a goal and one assist for the Flames, who last faced an 0-2 series deficit in the 2007 Western quarterfinals against Detroit.
Adrian Aucoin also tallied while Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 30 shots in defeat for Calgary, which returns home for Game 3 on Monday.
"We're happy with the position we've put ourselves in going on the road," said Toews. "They'll have the crowd on their side, and feed off the energy and noise, so we'll have a tough challenge ahead of us."
Chicago's three-goal second period erased an early deficit and provided the winning margin for the club, which is seeking its first playoff series victory in 13 years.
Toews scored his first career playoff goal just 46 seconds into the second period with helpers from Sharp and Cam Barker, halving the Hawks deficit with a power-play tally.
Sharp evened the game with just under six minutes left in the period, taking a Patrick Kane pass in full flight in the slot, faking around Kiprusoff and sliding the puck into an open net.
"It was a big goal, a nice pass by Kane," said Sharp. "It set the tone for the entire second period."
Only 24 seconds remained before intermission when Chicago went ahead 3-2, as Toews buried the rebound of Dave Bolland's slap shot from outside the crease.
Calgary only mustered 10 third-period shots and Khabibulin was equal on all of them. The Flames weren't able to muster any offense with an extra skater inside the final minute of regulation and the Hawks emerged victorious.
Iginla's power-play goal 7:44 into the contest gave the Flames an early lead, and Calgary went up by two at 16:15 when Aucoin's second-chance stuffer from the right post got behind a sprawled Khabibulin.
"We have to be pushing ourselves. We can't relax when we have the lead," Kiprusoff said. "We have to be stronger around their net and ours. We have to win the next game, then we're right back in it. If not, our backs will be against the wall."
