(My Sportsbook) - Zack Greinke hopes to continue his impressive start to the season this evening when the
Kansas City Royals play the second test of their three-game series against the
Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Greinke, who had a breakout 2008 season with 13 wins, has been marvelous to start this year, as he has won both his starts and has yet to surrender a run in 11 innings, while striking out 16 batters.
Dating back to last season, Greinke has gone 25 consecutive innings without allowing a run.
Against the Cleveland Indians on Monday, Greinke surrendered six hits over five scoreless innings in his team's 4-2 win. He also fanned nine batters in the victory.
Greinke, who was rewarded with a four-year, $38 million contract extension in the offseason, is 2-3 lifetime against the Rangers with a 3.51 ERA in nine games, seven of which have been starts.
Texas will counter with veteran Kevin Millwood, who has also been superb to start the year. After winning his first start, Millwood was even better in his last trip to the hill on Sunday in Detroit, but did not get a decision in his team's 6-4 loss. Millwood scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings in that one, while striking out six without walking a batter.
Millwood, who has allowed just one earned run in 14 innings this season, has faced the Royals 11 times and is 6-3 with a 4.66 ERA.
In the opener of this set on Friday, Gil Meche silenced the big Texas bats for six-plus scoreless innings, while Coco Crisp and Mike Jacobs each smacked three-run home runs to power the Royals to a 12-3 rout.
Meche (1-0) scattered six hits and two walks while striking out six to pick up his first win of the year.
Jacobs finished with four RBI, while Mark Teahen was a triple short of a cycle in a five-hit, three-run effort for Kansas City, which had 19 hits in its fourth win in five games.
Hank Blalock, Marlon Byrd and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each hit solo home runs, but it wasn't nearly enough to make up for Matt Harrison's (0-2) five-plus inning start. The 23-year-old surrendered six runs on eight hits and four walks for Texas, which was coming off a 19-6 win over Baltimore.
The Rangers have lost six of seven since a season-opening sweep of the Cleveland Indians.
Ian Kinsler walked and bunted for a single in his first two appearances at the plate, but flied out in the fifth inning, ending his consecutive on-base streak at nine at-bats.
Kinsler is 12-for-19 in his last four games and is hitting .476 on the season.
Texas won seven of its nine meetings with the Royals last season.
