Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Cubs have activated shortstop Alex Gonzalez off the 15-day disabled list. He had been sidelined with a fractured bone in his right wrist. Gonzalez suffered the injury during a May 5 game when he was hit by a pitch from Arizona's Mike Koplove. He wasn't awarded first base on the play because home plate umpire Charlie Reliford ruled it was a foul ball. The Cubs sent Gonzalez to Triple-A Iowa for a rehab stint, during which he went 8-for-24 with three doubles in eight games. Heading into Monday's game against St. Louis, Gonzalez was hitting .244 with three home runs and seven RBI in 24 games with the Cubs. Infielder Rey Ordonez was designated for assignment to open a roster spot. Ordonez was batting a measly .164 with one homer and five RBI in 23 games.
