(My Sportsbook) - One day after burying his teammate, Dustin Moseley takes the hill for the
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the opener of the team's three-game series with the
Minnesota Twins at the Metrodome.
On Thursday, Moseley, manager Mike Scioscia and some teammates attended the funeral services of Nick Adenhart, who was killed along with two friends in an automobile accident following the Angels' 6-4 loss to Oakland on April 8.
Moseley defeated the Boston Red Sox in his first start after the tragedy, holding them to two earned runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He is 1-0 with a 3.86 earned run average on the year.
The 27-year-old right-hander will be making his first-ever start against the Twins, but has faced them three times out of the bullpen and pitched to a 5.40 ERA in those contests.
Los Angeles ended Seattle's six-game winning streak on Thursday, as Joe Saunders threw seven solid innings and Mike Napoli hit the go-ahead two-run single during a sixth-inning uprising that helped the Angels to a 5-1 win.
Gary Matthews Jr., Juan Rivera and Maicer Izturis all had consecutive two-out RBI singles right after Napoli's hit as Los Angeles won on the road for the first time this season.
Saunders (2-1) allowed three hits and a run, walking a batter and fanning three.
Minnesota, meanwhile, enters tonight's tilt having lost three of four to the Toronto Blue Jays, including a 9-2 setback in Thursday's finale.
Francisco Liriano (0-3) lost again for the Twins, but did throw 65 of his 104 pitches for strikes and gave up just two runs -- one earned -- with five strikeouts in six frames.
Minnesota has now lost five of its last six, scoring just 14 runs in those contests.
Hoping to reverse that trend tonight will be righty Nick Blackburn, who is 0-1 with a 5.73 ERA in his two 2009 starts. Blackburn was charged with the loss on Sunday in Chicago, where the White Sox reached him for four runs (3 earned) and six hits in six innings.
Blackburn has lost both of his starts to the Angels while pitching to a 3.09 ERA.
The Angels were 5-3 against the Twins last season.
