Manchester, England (My Sportsbook) - Jose Paolo Guerrero scored in the 12th minute and Hamburg held on to advance in the UEFA Cup on aggregate, 4-3, after a 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Thursday.

Hamburg won the first leg in Germany last week 3-1, and took a commanding lead after Guerrero opened the scoring in the second-leg, quarterfinal match at the City of Manchester Stadium.

City rallied with goals from Blumer Elano in the 17th and Felipe Caicedo in the 50th, but couldn't find another goal to tie the series on aggregate and force overtime.

Hamburg plays fellow German side Werder Bremen in the semifinals. Bremen posted a 3-3 tie against Italy's Udinese to advance on aggregate, 6-4. Ukrainian clubs Dynamo Kyiv, which beat PSG, and Shakhtar Donetsk, which eliminated Marseille, play in the other semifinal.

Guerrero handed Hamburg the huge cushion less than 15 minutes into the second leg when he accepted a pass from Ivica Olic and placed a right-footed shot past City goalie Shay Given.

Hamburg also handed City the match equalizer when Piotr Trochowski was called for a handball in the penalty area. Elano buried the kick into the lower left to tie the score at 1.

City finally went ahead five minutes after the break when Stephen Ireland set up Caicedo, who picked out the lower-left corner from 18 yards.

City continued to push for the aggregate-tying goal, but Robinho was denied on a breakaway by Hamburg goalie Frank Rost in the 59th, and had a header saved in the 66th.

Manchester's chances were hurt in the 75th when Richard Dunne was sent off for a red card, and Hamburg held on over the final 15 minutes.

City had 19 shots - nine on goal - but Rost had with seven saves. Hamburg took 20 shots - 10 on goal - but Given made nine stops.

At Udinese, the Italian club grabbed a 3-1 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Fabio Quagliarella, but Diego completed his own double in the second half and Claudio Pizarro added a goal as Werder Bremen secured a spot in the semis.

At Dynamo Kyiv, the Ukraine side got a goal from Ismael Bangoura in the fourth minute and an own goal in the 15th to cruise past PSG. Kyiv tied the first leg in France 0-0, and advanced on aggregate, 3-0.

At Shakhtar Donetsk, Luis Fernandinho and Adriano scored on two of the team's five shots on goal as Ukrainian club advanced on aggregate, 4-1.

The first legs of the semifinals are April 30, when the second legs May 7.
